Set in the mid eighties, before the advent of mobile phones and the internet, Three Seasons explores the relationship between ESL teacher Gloria and real estate agent Jane, and between these women and their children.

My life is divided into ten week segments, writes Gloria. I spend five days a week with my students for a whole term, and by the end they're like family. Closer than family, sometimes. Closer than a lover. And suddenly -no contact. I'll visit Lien, but it won't be the same. She'll try too hard, and make me eat too much, and we'll find we have nothing to say to each other outside the classroom. Move on, Gloria. That's all you can do. Next year there'll be another group to fall in love with. It might have been different - easier - if Tuan were still around. ...


Mij Tanith is an Adelaide lesbian, well known for her political activism in a number of areas including refugee rights and gay law reform. She has been Writer-in-the-Community with many different organisations, and her work has produced a number of anthologies. For several years she wrote feature articles and theatre reviews for blaze, Adelaide's main GLBTIQ newspaper. She has written plays, poetry, short stories, and music theatre. Three Seasons is her first published novel. Mij is currently working on the biography of a Congolese refugee family, and is planning a second novel set in a post-oil future.
